Wimbledon Adds An AI Match Assistant
22JUN
Tennis fans can now just ask what's happening. Wimbledon and IBM added Match Chat, a genAI assistant answering live match questions in plain words. The grass-court major turns AI into a courtside explainer.
Match Chat is the headline feature. Built on IBM watsonx, it sits in the Wimbledon app and site. Ask what happened so far and it answers in conversation, with photos and clips.
Two more tools shipped. Key Moments flags the plays that swung momentum and explains why. Catch Me Up writes AI summaries of each singles player's last and next match.
IBM rebuilt the platform around this. It mapped 15,000 archive assets into a knowledge graph. The AELTC and IBM have partnered for 39 years. Watch if fans treat the bot as the new second screen.
