Headcount Doubled After AI Deployment
4JUN
AI created a new job before it eliminated any. The 'steward' — a human who debugs agents, catches their mistakes, improves them. Dan Shipper's company went from 15 to 30 deploying them.
Stewards are more skilled than the role the agent replaced. They debug AI decisions, override bad outputs, and tune prompts.
It's the new top-of-pyramid role. Pays better. Harder to hire for. Every agentic deployment creates demand for one.
The 'AI = fewer people' assumption may break before the productivity math kicks in. At least for knowledge-work firms.
