ChatGPT Falls to 54.7%, Claude Surges 306%
ChatGPT is still dominant, but the AI chatbot market is fracturing. New Momentic data shows Claude grew 306% in one quarter, from 203M to 824M monthly visits. ChatGPT slid from 76.5% to 54.7% share in 15 months.
Claude had 1.4% web-visit share in February 2025. By April 2026 it reached 8.2%, with 12.5% in the US specifically. The 306% quarterly growth is off a small base, but the direction has been consistent for four consecutive quarters.
Key engagement signal: Claude has the lowest bounce rate of the seven tracked chatbots (26%), and the second-highest pages per visit (4.34). Users who find claude.ai stay and work. DeepSeek's spike to 12% in February 2025 faded; Claude's rise has compounded steadily since Q2 2025.
ChatGPT is still five times Claude's size by web traffic. These numbers are consumer web visits, not API or enterprise revenue. But consumer web fracturing is historically the leading signal that enterprise preference follows, usually 12-18 months later.
